New Delhi, 8 July: Shiva Thapa (56kg)became the  youngest  Indian boxer  to clinch a gold medal at the Asian Championships in Amman, Jordan today.
However, L Devendro Singh (49kg) and Mandeep Jangra (69kg) failed to cross the final hurdle and had to be content with a silver medal each.
Thapa was  tactically far superior   than   home favourite Obada Alkabeh  whom he  defeated  on a split decision of 2-1 .
However   it was disappointment for Olympian  Devendro Singh (49kg), who went down fighting to Kazakhstan&’s Temertas Zhussupov. 
The Indian  lost on a split decision of 1-2. Jangra also lost to Daniyar Yeleussinov of Kazakhstan.
India rounded off the campaign with a gold, two silver and a bronze.     SNS
