India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu, who recently clinched Korea Open, displayed another splendid performance in Tokyo when she defeated Japan’s Minatsu Mitani for the second time in two weeks to reach the second round of the women’s singles at the Japan Open Super Series on Wednesday.

The Olympic silver medallist shuttler continued her momentum after a successful outing in Korea.

Sindhu was initially a game down to Mitani by 12-21 but then recovered to edge past the Japanese girl 12-21, 21-15, 21-17 in the opening round of the $325,000 badminton event.

The 22-year-old Indian had earlier routed Mitani at quarterfinals of the Korea Open.

In the second round of Japan Open, Sindhu will face Nozomi Okuhara, the shuttler to whom the Indian lost at the World Championship last month.

Sindhu had to settle for silver medal after battling for an hour and 50 minutes at the finals of Glasgow World Championship.

Earlier in the day, Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth also made positive starts to their campaign, notching up contrasting wins in women’s and men’s singles respectively.
