The final Twenty20 International match between India and Australia at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, was called off due to wet outfield.

Hyderabad has been receiving heavy rains for more than a week now and the Met office had predicted rain on Friday as well.

As the match suspended, both the teams will share the shimmering trophy in Hyderabad.

“Match abandoned. A sodden outfield the culprit, with the series finishing as a 1-1 tie. #INDvAUS,” Cricket Australia said on Twitter.

Indian captain Virat Kohli and his Australian counterpart David Warner, umpires and match officials decided that no play could be possible because of a soft outfield.

According to the umpires, the outfield was so sodden that there was no real chance of play despite the fact that it did not rain for quite a while.

After the match was delayed, the ground at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was inspected three times but despite all efforts from the groudstaff play was not possible.

Earlier, India won the first T20I by nine wickets in Ranchi, followed by Australia’s eight-wicket victory in the second T20I in Guwahati.

The men-in-blue previously outclassed Australia 4-1 to clinch the five-match ODI series.
