DEHRADUN, 14 JUNE: In its bid to play a positive role in identifying the sports talent from every nook and corner of the country the Union government is introducing Rajeev Gandhi Sports Movement Plan. Under this plan the Union sports ministry will be giving Rs 15 crore to each district in the state. While announcing Rajeev Gandhi Sports Andolan Yojna (RGSAY) the Union Minister of state for sports Jitendra Singh said that soon this would be put up in the meeting of the Union Cabinet for its nod.  He said that the country is full of sports talent and by introducing this plan the Union Government will search and recognize this talent. He also informed that the government will soon introduce quota for sportsmen setting new records at national and international level in Indian Army, paramilitary forces, private institutions and state services.
The Union minister was here to lay the foundation stones of different sports facilities in the state.  These include a synthetic track, a multi purpose hall and an Astroturf at the Maharaja Pratap Sports College here besides a multipurpose hall and 400 meter track at Youth Welfare Directorate and sports facilities at Parade ground. While laying down the foundation stones Jitendra Singh said that the center has given Rs 7 crore for Hockey astroturf and Rs 35 crore for other sports facilities in the state.  “The Union government wants the state to develop sports facilities and encourage sportsmen,” he said . The Sports Minister of Uttarkhand Dinesh Aggarwal also demanded Rs 6.28 lakh for setting up River Rafting Training centers at Pithoragarh, Tehri, Champawat and Uttarkashi and Rs 37 Lakh to set up adventure sports training centers.
