Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard gave some good news to football fans as he announced that his recovery from ankle surgery is going fine and he remains on track to return to training in a month’s time.

Hazard uploaded an image of himself on his Instagram profile working out on the cross-trainer in the gym with the caption: “A good week, my cast is off, now the lonely journey to full fitness! #cfc #hardwork”.

The 26-year-old winger broke his ankle while on international duty for Belgium in June and was subsequently operated upon, with Chelsea releasing a statement that their star winger would be missing in action for a period of up to three months.

While the initial diagnosis had been an August return for the mercurial winger, the Premier League champions’ statement pushed his return back to September, which would mean that Hazard would miss Chelsea’s opening games of the 2017-18 season.

After the operation, which was successful, Hazard had initially tweeted “Everything went well with my ankle operation, now I start the road to recovery! I will be stronger. Thank you for your support everyone!

Chelsea begin their title defence with a home game against Burnley on August 12 before making the short journey to Tottenham Hotspur the week after and then host Everton on August 26, and all three games are certainly going to be missed by the diminutive Hazard.

Hazard is likely to miss the September 9 tie against Leicester City but could be fit for a crunch clash against arch-rivals Arsenal on September 17.
