Twelve easy tips on how to make fresh flowers bloom longer

1. Pick fresh flowers with long and sturdy stem and bud.

2. Remove wilted leaves or drooping flowers or petals from the bunch of flowers you bought.

3. Place the fresh flowers in a bowl or vase of clean water. Let each stem touch the water.

4. Choose the right size of bowl or vase. Give a little space for the stems to stand freely.

5. Place the flower vase away from direct sunlight or too much heat.

6. Do not keep them near open windows.

7. Keep them in a cool and dry place.

8. Add a few drops of vodka with a teaspoon of sugar in the water.

9. Refill the vase with fresh water every day.

10. Trim off half an inch of the stem from its bottom at the time of changing the water.

11. Keep flowers away from ripening fruits and vegetables as they release a gas that can make the flowers die in a short span.

12. If some flowers have not opened full, dip their stems in warm water for two minutes and transfer them in cold water for half an hour. This process will open them up to their maximum without hurting the delicate petals.

Now, buy yourself and your loved ones pretty flowers and let their fragrance fill your heart and hearth.
