Fever is usually caused by viruses and is often accompanied by a runny nose, sore throat, cough, body ache, headache, congestion and sluggishness, and your body temperature crosses 99 or 100-degree Fahrenheit. Try out a few traditional home remedies to treat fever.

A bath with lukewarm water can bring down body temperature.

Take water at room temperature in a container. Dip clean cotton bandage in it. Squeeze and place on forehead and back of the neck. Repeat till fever comes down. Change the water after five–six bandages.

Sponge the whole body with lukewarm to cold water in case of high fever due to sunstroke.

Wrap the affected person in a wet sheet soaked in slightly cool, not cold water. Drain excess water and wrap around the feverish body. Cover the wet sheet with a large beach towel or blanket. Make the patient lie down for 15 minutes. Unwrap the sheet when it starts getting warm.

Warm your feet dipping in hot water before going to bed. Dip a thin pair of cotton socks in cold water. Wring them out and put them on. Put on another pair of wool socks over wet ones. This wet-sock treatment will ease your fever by increasing blood circulation and drawing blood to your feet.

When the temperature of the body rises, it starts dehydrating. Drink at least eight to twelve glasses of water a day. Drink plenty of healthy fluids like coconut water and fresh fruit juices etc. to replenish fluid and mineral loss due to fever.

Steep half inch minced ginger root and half a teaspoon of fennel seeds in one cup of water. Add few basil leaves. Boil for few minutes. Strain and add little organic honey. Drink hot. It will trigger sweating and move your fever towards its end.

Take half a teaspoon each of clove powder and cinnamon powder. Add them to one cup of boiling hot water with few basil leaves. Keep stirring until the decoction turns cool to drink.

Cumin seeds are regarded as beneficial for the treatment of common fever. Boil one teaspoon of cumin seeds with a glass of water. Strain and drink when cool.

Grind six peppercorns and add them to a glass of warm water. Sweeten it with a spoonful of organic honey. The decoction should be taken lukewarm for few nights.

Add juice of two lemons in half cup of boiling water dulcified with honey. Consume it during bed time.

Take good care of your diet. Consume more of whole grain and steamed vegetables. Avoid having meat, cheese, curd, milk, oily or spicy food and sweets completely. Eat oranges due to their rich nutrient of vitamin C which strengthens resistance to further infection. Pineapple, melon, grapes, apple and pear are other beneficiary fruits that should be incorporated into the diet of a person suffering from fever.

These are the ancient healing solutions for fever. The patient should take ample rest. Exposure to extreme cold, heat, exertion, exercise and mental stress should be avoided at any cost until the patient regains health and strength. These remedies have a long history of use as a natural treatment for fever.

It is important to monitor high fever. Seek a doctor’s advice if the fever reaches a critical level. Then, it must be controlled quickly on an urgent basis under the supervision of a medical expert.
