KOLKATA, 21 JUNE: Trinamul Congress-backed employees of Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) today forced the registrar of the university to leave the campus as he had raised doubts about the actual educational qualifications of the employees during a meeting yesterday.
The driver of his car too refused to take him home and Prof Subrata Ghosh had to take a taxi to his Salt Lake residence from RBU&’s BT Road campus.
During the meeting of the finance committee yesterday, Prof Ghosh had said that many university employees had suppressed their educational qualification to get jobs. Mr Sushanta Chakraborty, general secretary of the TMC-backed employees’ union of the university, took offence and asked the registrar to prove his claim. As the registrar did not elaborate, the employees today agitated in the registrar’s office and asked him to leave the university. Eye-witnesses said the employees chased Prof Ghosh and made sure that he left the campus. sns
