SRINAGAR, 25 JUNE: A day after terrorists killed eight Army men here, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today asserted that terrorism will not be allowed to succeed in its nefarious designs.
On a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi visited the Army Base Hospital at the Badamibagh cantonment to enquire about the condition of the injured jawans in the  attack by suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militants.
The militants ambushed an Army convoy killing eight jawans and injuring 19 others near the Hyderpora area on the outskirts of the city yesterday and sped away after carrying out a second strike at a police check post.
“I would like to make it clear that the entire nation stands united against terrorism and will not allow terrorists to succeed with their nefarious designs,” he said after laying the foundation stone of the 850 MW Rattle hydroelectric power project at Kishtawar in Jammu.
Mr Singh paid tributes to the soldiers who laid down their lives while fighting the terrorists. “I am proud of what the Army is doing,” he said.
He noted the Centre and state government would work together towards improving the situation in the state for fast and uniform development.
