A few journalists with whom Sunanda Pushkar had talked to hours before her death in January last year will be questioned by Delhi Police which is in the process of analysing the veracity of the statement made by her husband Shashi Tharoor during questioning.

The Special Investigating Team (SIT) of Delhi Police has also got a new piece of information that Sunanda had gone out of a five-star hotel of Delhi, a day after she checked into it on January 15 last year, and is probing the details.

52-year-old Sunanda was found dead in a room in the hotel on January 17 last year. Delhi Police filed a case of murder in the case on January 1 and an SIT was formed to probe the case.

Police sources today said some journalists with whom Sunanda had talked over phone in the last 48 hours of her life have been called for questioning.

One of them, a TV journalist, confirmed on twitter that he has been summoned tomorrow morning.

Besides, two women journalists are also likely to be called for questioning.

Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi said the information given by Tharoor during questioning is being analysed and if the SIT is not satisfied, he will be called again for questioning.

"I will not be able to tell you that right now (when he will be questioned). Whenever the SIT finds it appropriate they will do it. We have questioned him and the SIT is analysing the answers.

"It may happen that the SIT gets satisfied with the information it has got. If they are not satisfied with the information so far, he may be called again," he said.

If they do, they will do it soon," said Bassi.

Asked about the exact time, the police chief said, "I will not put a time frame on it but our aim is to take this case to its logical conclusion as soon as possible."

He also said that no fresh notice has been issued to Tharoor in this connection.

Sources said Tharoor’s statement before investigators during his nearly four-hour long questioning will be matched with the one he had made before the SDM who had carried out inquest proceedings in the case soon after his wife Sunanda’s death.

Delhi Police has maintained that anything "relevant" to the case, including the IPL angle will be taken into account by the investigating team.

In another twist to the case, it has also come to light that Sunanda, who had checked in the hotel on January 15, had gone out to meet someone the next day. Police is trying to ascertain where she had gone, with whom and to meet whom.

Whereabouts of Shashi Tharoor on the intervening night of January 15 and 16 are also been verifed.

The couple had fought on the flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi on January 15 following which she left him at the airport and checked in at Leela Hotel where Tharoor had joined her the next day.
