Bangalore, 5 Oct: Petroleum minister Veerappa Moily today launched two consumer empowering services, including the sale of five kg LPG cylinders at market prices through petrol bunks and the inter-company LPG portability service for consumers.
Under the first scheme, consumers will be able to purchase 5 kg cylinders from designated petrol bunks by merely showing their proof of identity. Earlier, small cylinders were not marketed by public sector oil firms. The scheme will be operational from today in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore on a pilot basis through select retail outlets.
Under LPG portability, a consumer can now opt for the distributor of his choice within a  given cluster. The scheme, that aims to help consumers who are not happy with the service provided by their current distributor, will be operational in 24 cities to start with. sns
