New Delhi, 11 November: The first phase of elections in Chhattisgarh witnessed a turnout of 67 per cent, one per cent higher than the turnout of the last Assembly election. Polling was marred by a few incidents of exchange of firing between CRPF personnel and Maoists.
One CRPF jawan was killed in Dantewada district in an exchange of fire. Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered at several polling booths.
Thirteen of the 18 Assembly constituencies where polling was conducted are affected by Left-wing extremism. In the Maoist-affected  constituencies polling was conducted between 7 am and 3 pm.                     sns
