Lucknow, 4 September
A woman cop posted at a police station in the transGomti area of Lucknow had to use the Women Power Line 1090 of the Uttar Pradesh police to to ward off the lewd advances of her senior.
She registered a complaint against her senior, a station officer (SO),.
The incident came to light on Monday, though sources said it had taken place on 29 July. It was kept under wraps for fear that it would further tarnish the reputation of the men in khakhi.
The SO Taufeeq Ahmad had reportedly called the woman constable to his room and had indulged in obscene talk. The harried cop had initially tried to ignore his amourous advances. But the SO caught hold of her hand, wrote `I love You’ on it and indulged in further objectionable behaviour. The 2012 batch mahila constable who was frightened out of her wits rushed out of the room. It is said she tried to set her hand on fire, but the other police personnel doused it and took her for medical aid. A complaint was filed by her on 1090.
The constable also approached deputy inspector general Navneet Sekeria asking for a transfer to the women’s helpline. Asked why she was seeking a transfer, she narrated her tale of woe to the IG, who took a stern view of the incident. Senior Superintendent of Police J Ravinder Goud ordered an inquiry into the incident, to be conducted by the Circle Officer, Cantonment Babita Singh.
