Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday said the Congress stands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his efforts to protect the country’s security.

Speaking to the media here Sonia Gandhi said: ldquo;We stand with the Narendra Modi government in its actions to protect country’s security.quot;

She further warned Pakistan to stop backing terrorists and take steps to dismantle infrastructure of terrorists that it has been supporting.

ldquo;The Congress expects that Pakistan will take effective action to dismantle infrastructure of terrorism that it has supported. We hope that Pakistan will recognise that it bears a great responsibility in continuing terrorist attacks against Indiardquo; she said.

The Congress president’s statement comes after she chaired a meeting with senior Congress leaders at her residence 10 Janpath to discuss the Indian Army’s quot;surgical strikesquot; across the Line of Control LoC. ldquo;All Indians are appreciating the steps taken by the Indian armyrdquo; he said.

In a joint conference by the Defence Ministry and the External Affairs Ministry Director General Military Operations DGMO Lt Gen Ranbir Singh said that quot;the Army conducted surgical strikes last nightquot; across LoCnbsp;based on specific information that quot;some terrorists were at launch pads aiming to infiltratequot;.

The Union government has called an all-party meeting minutes after the operation.
