As visuals of Uttrakhand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Ganesh Joshi hitting a horse flooded social media on Tuesday, appalled and angry people across the country lambasted the leader and scoffed at the saffron party&’s ‘nationalism’ plank that has been of late turned into a nationwide campaign.

Many vented their ire on micro-blogging site Twitter and the hashtag "Is horse anti-national" mocking the BJP became the top trending topic with hundreds of messages from celebrities, politicians, and the common folks.

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor tweeted: "This is disgusting inhumane behaviour @harishrawatcmuk I hope you deal with this man!"

Youth Congress Odisha leader Poly Sarkar ‏wrote, "Junta dnt (don’t) b (be) surprised if tht (that) Moron is awarded a cabinet berth, aftr (after) all he showed the bravery of his party #IsHorseAntiNational."

One ‏Saifi Rashid tweeted, "Those people should also be called anti-national who are thinking NZ would win the match. #IsHorseAntiNational #IndvsNZ."

Another user Ashkronos wrote, "A horse cannot hit you back. Show your strength on someone who can punch you back. #IsHorseAntiNational."

One Twitterati Kunalbarchha posted, "Not sure #IsHorseAntiNational , but I am sure we have few donkeys in the country that are Anti-national."

A Twitter user by the name Goutamsahoo wrote, "Where z (is) Menaka Gandhi the animal right activist? No outrage on its party leader !! #IsHorseAntiNational."

On Monday, the BJP protests against Uttarkhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat took an ugly turn when Joshi along with other leaders hit a police horse. The injured animal was taken to the veterinary hospital for treatment.
