National leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Bandaru Dattatreya on Saturday remembered Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and paid tributes on his 53rd death anniversary.

Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia too took to Twitter and paid tribute to the great leader.
"On his death anniversary, we pay homage to Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru ji, the architect of modern India," Jyotiraditya Scindia wrote.
"Remembering our first Prime Minister, great freedom fighter & architect of modern India #JawaharlalNehru on his death 53rd death anniversary," Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said in a tweet.
Earlier in the day, President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari offered floral tributes at Nehru's memorial Shantivan.
Nehru, who was sworn-in on August 15, 1947, as the first Prime Minister of India when the nation gained independence from the British empire, died on May 27, 1964.
In office until his death, Nehru remains India's longest-serving Prime Minister.
He was born on November 14, 1889, in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad.
