Chandigarh, 4 September:After being unanimously re-elected as president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for the second term, Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal appears keen to expand the party’s base in other states with sizable number of Punjabi speaking population.
The SAD is keen to contest Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand and even Uttar Pradesh. "We will venture into states having a sizable number of Punjabis, as the party truly represents the feelings and aspirations of the Punjabi population," Mr Sukhbir, who was re-elected as SAD president on Tuesday said.
While SAD has already participated in elections for Assembly and municipal corporation in Delhi, the party’s victory in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) elections had underlined  Sikh community’s support to it in the capital where the SAD is keen to contest six seats in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
The Punjab deputy chief minister, Mr Sukhbir is also keen to expand in neighbouring Haryana where an Akali candidate had won in the previous Vidhan Sabha election in Haryana.    SNS
