Air Vice Marshal Rajiv Dayal Mathur has been promoted to the rank of Air Marshal with effect from February 15, 2016, the Defence Ministry said on Sunday.

Mathur was Assistant Chief of Air Staff in charge of the Indian Air Force&’s (IAF) Air Warfare Strategy Cell besides its space,  cyber,  air traffic services and media and public relations directorates.

Commissioned into IAF&’s fighter stream in June 1982, Mathur has under his belt over 5,000 hours of flying experience in a variety of operational and training roles.  He had earlier served as Air Defence commander and commanded a frontline Air Force Station and a fighter aircraft squadron as well.

For his meritorious service, he has been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in 2003 and AtiVishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) in 2014 by the President of India.
