BJP’s Kisan Morcha President and Lok Sabha member Virendra Singh on Tuesday said Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was anti-farmer and anti-Gujarat.

“Rahul Gandhi talks about farmers, but none of his forefathers ever cultivated land. He talks about setting up potato factory while his father (former Prime Minister) Rajiv Gandhi spoke about sowing jaggery. Those who cannot differentiate between jowar, bajra and wheat are talking about farming,” Singh said in a statement here.

“Rahul Gandhi’s statement on farming is an insult to farmers. He is ancestrally anti-farmers and anti-Gujarat.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader’s attack comes after Rahul Gandhi called the BJP an anti-farmer party while campaigning for Gujarat assembly elections.

The BJP MP said Narendra Modi was the first Prime Minister in India to allocate 42 per cent of the total Budget to agriculture and rural issues while no previous Congress government even gave half of what his government had allocated.

Recalling how Congress leader Indira Gandhi blocked Moraraji Desai’s prospects of becoming Prime Minister in the past, Virendra Singh said no one could be a bigger foe of Gujarat than the Congress.

He said farmers under the banner of Kisan Sena will visit Gujarat from November 20 and hold discussions with peasants.
