CHANDIGARH/BAREILLY, 8 JUNE: A police inspector died after being stabbed while a constable was seriously injured when a youth allegedly attacked them after he and his woman accomplice were questioned for their suspicious movement in the wee hours today.
Inspector Sucha Singh, who sustained multiple stab injuries, succumbed at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) this morning while another cop Mr Jatinder Singh, a police constable, was still in the hospital after being critically injured in the attack, police said. According to police, the incident took place at around 3.00 a.m. when the cops, who were on night patrol, questioned the couple for roaming near the district court complex. Police said the policemen decided to take them to a nearby police station after they were unable to give satisfactory answers. It was then that the youth attacked the inspector and the other cop with a sharp-edged weapon, leaving them profusely bleeding on the road, they said. The couple managed to escape from the scene of crime in the police vehicle, they added. Meanwhile, a senior police official said they were treating a suspended cop of Chandigarh Police Basant Kumar alias Bunty as a possible suspect in the case, who is on run and was allegedly involved in a murder case. An SIT under a DSP rank officer had been constituted to investigate the case, they said, adding that a case was registered and a hunt launched to arrest the suspects.
Cop killed by four armed men in UP
A policeman was shot dead by four armed people, who fled with their detained accomplice during raid, a senior officer said today.
Aniruddha Yadav (42), driver of a police team which had gone out to raid a location on receiving information last night regarding a loot in Babhia village, was shot dead by four armed people, SSP Akash Kulhari said. Acting on a tip off, Cantt police station officer Akhtar Sajjad, sub-inspector Madanlal, constable Habeeb, Homeguard Anand Bharati and driver Aniruddha Yadav conducted a raid in Babhia village. At the time of the raid one culprit, identified as Sarvesh Kashyap was detained, who during the interrogation revealed that loot was committed by the accomplices of a Karan Gangwar alias Chottu of the same village. However, Chottu could not be found following which police detained his father Krishnapal, against whom a non-bailable warrant was already pending, the SSP said. Meanwhile, during the raid, the criminals escaped with Kishnapal, SSP said.
