If the findings of the US-based Pew Research Center are to be believed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity has barely suffered any dent during  the last over three years in office.

Considered a credible think-tank, Pew Research Center took into account views of nearly 2464 Indians in a country wide survey before reaching the conclusion. “Three years into Modi’s five-year tenure, the honeymoon period for his administration may be over, but the public’s love affair with current conditions in India is even more intense,” the Pew report pointed out.

The report said notwithstanding recent steps such as note ban and implementation of GST that evoked sharp reactions from both people and traders, the Modi wave has far from waned and it remains intact at the 2014 levels when the BJP came to power with full majority.

The survey was held from 21 February and it sought to elicit peoples’ opinion on Modi’s popularity, social and economic policies of his government from a cross-section of the country’s population. The report concluded that about nine out of ten people favour Modi and seven out of ten are his staunch supporters.

In the southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana and in the western states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh at least nine out of 10 Indians are inclined towards Modi, the survey said.

Over eight out of 10 Indians in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal and the northern states of Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh also hold Modi in high esteem, the survey added.
