Major fire breaks out near Mumbai’s Bandra railway station

A major fire broke out reported near Mumbai Bandra railway station, after a gas cylinder exploded during  demolition of unauthorised constructions at Behrampada slum on Thursday.

Two persons, including a fire fighter, have been injured in the fire. Both were taken to a hospital and are now out of danger.

According to media reports, 16 fire tenders 17 water tankers have been pressed into service to douse the fire near a low- income group housing facility next to the station. Booking office and walkway at the station has been damaged due to fire , added media reports.

The railway station authorities have evacuated the station. The incident resulted in a disruption of services on the Harbour Line, which were suspended briefly as a precautionary measure.

The authorities also blocked commuters from using the foot-over bridge near the station, while a massive traffic jam was witnessed on the Western Express Highway.

Efforts are underway to douse the fire, said the officials.
