A cycle expedition to commemorate the 1962 war with China — the 55th year of ‘the Battle of Namka Chu’ — was on Monday flagged off at Mathura cantonment in Uttar Pradesh, an official said.

“The war commenced at the dizzy heights of Dhola Post during which 2 Rajput fought valiantly wherein 285 others of the battalion laid down their lives on October 20, 1962. The battle fought by the battalion stands testimony to the saga of ‘Collective Valour and Self Sacrifice’,” an official spokesperson said.”

The five-day cycle expedition will traverse through Agra, Firozabad, Shikohabad, Mainpuri, Fatehgarh and Shahjahanpur which are the important catchment areas for recruitment of Rajput troops. The expedition will terminate at Shahjahanpur covering a total distance of 336 km.
