On the penultimate day of campaigning in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh, also known as ‘Dev Bhoomi’ or the ‘Land of Gods’ Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi cited the Bhagwad Gita to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a rally in Paonta Sahib, the Gandhi scion said: “It is written in the Gita, kaam karo, phal ki chinta mat karo (keep performing your duty and don’t think about fruits of success)…

“But Modi ji has interpreted it as, Phal sab kha jao aur kaam ki chinta mat karo (eat all the fruits and won’t worry about the work.)”

The Congress leader’s rally in Paonta Sahib was first among the three public addresses that he will hold today. The other two rallies will be held in Chamba and Kangra.

Himachal Pradesh will go to polls for 68 assembly seats on November 9. The votes will be counted on December 18 along with those in Gujarat.

In Himachal Pradesh, Congress won 36 of the 68 seats in 2012 with a vote share of 42.81 per cent, while the BJP bagged 26 seats with a 38.47 per cent vote share.
