GUWAHATI, 15 JUNE: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has ordered a complete inspection of all the blood banks in the state, both government and private, following an incident of transfusion of HIV infected blood to patients in a government hospital in central Assam. Mr Gogoi also directed the authorities to register a criminal case on the incident in which at least four patients, including a woman, were given the infected blood from the blood bank of Mangaldoi civil hospital in Darrang district. The chief minister has also ordered a probe to be conducted by the State additional chief secretary, Mr PP Varma. A team of medical experts has also been sent to Mangaldoi from Guwahati to conduct a separate probe into the incident. Agitated locals, meanwhile, blocked NH-52 disrupting traffic for several hours in protest against the incident. sns
