Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah on Monday accused the Congress of putting the safety of the nation at stake to indulge in votebank politics.

Addressing a public rally in poll bound Himachal Pradesh’s Banikhet, Shah said: “Congress has always indulged in votebank politics by putting the nation’s safety at stake.”

Mocking Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for criticising the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, Shah said scams worth Rs.12 lakh crore took place under the Gandhi scion’s watch and he must not forget that.

The BJP chief further attacked Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh accusing him of ruining the state with scams and corruption.

“Wherever there is talk of corruption across the country, Virbhadra’s name appears in the list. The Congress has ruined the image of dev bhoomi (land of gods),” said Shah referring to the hill state.

Elections to the 68-member Himachal Pradesh assembly will be held on November 9. The votes would be counted on December 18.
