Tearing into Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi over his meeting with Chinese envoy during the Doklam standoff, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said someone who doesn’t trusts his own elected government possesses no “primary knowledge”.

Without taking the Gandhi scion’s name, Modi said it was sad and shocking that a person, whose great grandfather, grandmother and father were all prime ministers, doesn’t trust his country’s constitution and elected government.

“He didn’t choose to ask the Indian government, the army of India or the external affairs ministry about the happenings in Doklam but went and met the Chinese envoy? Do you trust the Chinese over your own people?” asked Modi at a public rally in Kangra in the poll bound Himachal Pradesh.

“Isn’t this a disrespect of the country’s constitution, its elected government, its army and its people?” he added.

I am sorry to say, those who don’t even have such primary knowledge, how can you trust them and believe their promises,” Modi said further.

In July, Rahul Gandhi had met Chinese envoy to India, Luo Zhaohui amid escalated border tensions between India and China in Doklam leading to widespread criticism.

Modi also called the Congress party a “laughing club” and said that its “rotten ideology” must be defeated.

Elections to the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly will be held on November 9 and the votes counted on December 18 along with Gujarat.
