Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said Congress has “lost” Himachal Pradesh elections even before the results are declared.

Addressing a rally in poll-bound Himachal’s Chamba, Rajnath Singh said: “People tell me that Congress has lost Himachal Pradesh even before the declaration of result.”

He further said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) believed that politics should be used as a tool to build the nation.

“We believe that we must be in politics not only to form government but also to build the nation,” he said.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi too had said that the Congress had conceded defeat in the hill state as no senior Congress leader was campaigning there.

Addressing a public rally in Kangra, Modi had said that the Congress had left Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to his fate.

The hill state will go to polls for 68 assembly seats on November 9 and with just a few days left, both the Congress and the BJP have upped the ante against each other, desperate to woo the voters.

While, the BJP’s has gone full throttle in its campaigning with a battery of top ministers including Modi regularly holding rallies, the Congress’ campaigning has been lackluster in comparison.

The results will be declared on December 18, the day the votes cast will be counted along with those in Gujarat.

In Himachal Pradesh, Congress won 36 of the 68 seats in 2012 with a vote share of 42.81 per cent, while the BJP bagged 26 seats with a 38.47 per cent vote share.
