Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed BJP’s victory in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh and said that the voters in the two states had chosen “politics of good governance and development”.

“Election results in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh indicate a strong support for politics of good governance and development,” Modi said in a series of tweets.

“I salute the hardworking BJP Karyakartas in these states for their hardwork which has led to these impressive victories,” he added.

Modi vowed to leave “no stone unturned” to ensure further development in the two states.

“I bow to the people of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh for their affection and trust in BJP. I assure them that we will leave no stone unturned in furthering the development journey of these states and serve the people tirelessly,” he said.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah has credited the win to Modi’s development agenda which beat politics of casteism and dynasty.

In a series of tweets, Shah said: “BJP’s win in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly polls is the victory of PM Narendra Modi’s development over casteism and dynasty politics.”

After trailing for a while, the BJP is all set to retain power in Gujarat and from the next government in Himachal Pradesh.

Trends from counting centres across Gujarat put BJP candidates ahead in 100 seats while Congress nominees were forging ahead in 80 constituencies. The Gujarat Assembly has 182 seats.

After surprisingly leading over the BJP at one point and sending the stock market crashing, the Congress began to trail to the BJP again.

The BJP won 115 seats and the Congress 61 in 2012.

Rupani too trailed at one time in Rajkot West but managed to reverse the situation after a while and ultimately won, the officials said.

As overjoyed Congress activists, expecting a victory, began celebrating early in the day, the stock markets took a beating. But the Congress celebrations were shortlived — and the stock markets made a quick recovery.

I bow to the people of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh for their affection and trust in BJP. I assure them that we will leave no stone unturned in furthering the development journey of these states and serve the people tirelessly.
