Tough words rang loud in the Rajya Sabha on Friday on the issue of Rohith Vemula’s suicide. Bhaujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati accused the government of protecting people with RSS links who forced Rohith to commit suicide at Hyderabad Central University in January.

The BSP chief said that she was not satisfied with Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani’s reply on the issue. Irani had on Wednesday said in the Upper House that she would cut off her head if she failed to satisfy Mayawati with her reply on Rohith’s death.

Mayawati also criticised the government for not including a Dalit member in a panel probing Rohith’s death.

The BSP chief said that setting up of the panel was a “farce” and was aimed at saving people with “RSS links who abetted the scholar&’s suicide".
