Ahmedabad, 12 November: A division Bench of Gujarat High Court today granted a temporary bail to former Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare, Dr Mayaben Kodnani who had been sentenced to 28 years’ imprisonment for her role in the Naroda Patiya massacre case. She has been in jail since August last year when a Special Court here had convicted her in the Naroda Patiya massacre.
The Bench comprising Mr Justice K S Jhaveri and Mr Justice K J Thaker granted her temporary bail for three months on medical grounds for tuberculosis and heart treatment .
She had moved the High Court seeking six months’ bail. Her advocate Hardik Dave sought the bail but the SIT, which had investigated the Naroda Patiya case, opposed the bail application with the argument that she can be treated inside the jail too.
All the relevant medical documents connected to her ailments were made available to the court. The Bench also said that Dr Kodnani should keep the SIT informed about details of her travels outside Gujarat for her treatment. sns
