RAIPUR, 17 JUNE. Rattled by a horrific Maoist attack at Jheerum Ghati in the Sukma district of south Chhattisgarh, the beleaguered Congress plans to generate a sympathy wave across the state to cash in on the loss of several of its senior leaders. Usually shy of the BJP styled ‘Yatras’ , the grand old party is all set to launch a state-wide‘ Kalash Yatra’, carrying soil from the fields of Jheerum Ghati.
Acting head of Chhattisgarh PCC, Dr Charan Das Mahant announced the party&’s plan to launch  ‘Kalash Yatra’ anytime in the first or last week of July. The proposed Yatra was in principle approved in a meeting of PCC office bearers on Monday.
While observers believe the motive of the yatra is to gain maximum political mileage out of a tragedy, Mr Mahant, at the onset of the Press meet, made it clear that the Yatra was totally apolitical in nature.
“Apart from completing the Parivartan Yatra, halted due to a deadly Maoist ambush in Darbha on 25 May, the party will also launch a ‘ Kalash Yatra’, showcasing the martyrdom of veteran Congress leaders VC Shukla, Nand Kumar Patel, Mahendra Karma ,Uday Mudaliyar and 27 others who were killed by the Maoists, ” Mr Mahant said.
The Union Minister of state for Food and Civil Supplies said the 4-legged Yatra is proposed to be kicked off  from the respective native places of slain leader Mr Karma, Mr Patel, Mr Shukla  and Mr Mudaliyar. The vehicles which will be used for the Yatra, will display the pictures of all the martyrs along with the Earthen Kalash filled with the soil of ground-zero,  the said.
Mr Mahant however said, that the specific date when the yatra will begin, has not been finalised yet. Efforts were on to bring some top party leaders for each leg of Kalash Yatra from Delhi, he added.
The Yatra is scheduled to cover all the 21 District and
90 Assembly constituencies of the state.
