Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mukul Wasnik on Friday began talks with DMK president M Karunanidhi over seat-sharing and shaping up the strategy for the May 16 Tamil Nadu Assembly election.
On his arrival here, Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters that he, party general secretary in-charge for Tamil Nadu Mukul Wasnik, TNCC chief E V K S Elangovan and other state leaders would hold talks with the DMK leadership.
"We will meet the DMK leadership and discuss our election strategy, how to go about it, how to fight election together and we might also discuss seat distribution among ourselves.
"Of course, this is going to be the first meeting and this is not the last meeting. Whatever we can discuss in the first meeting we will discuss and subsequently we will have many more such meetings," he said.
The Congress leaders drove straight to Karunanidhi’s Gopalapuram residence from the airport. DMK treasurer M K Stalin and others welcomed them there.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, formal talks between the leadership of DMK and Congress began.
From the DMK side, party chief Karunanidhi, Stalin, party Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, senior leaders Duraimurugan, and E V Velu participated.
Congress was represented by Azad, Wasnik, Elangovan and Congress Legislature Party leader Gopinath.
