GUWAHATI, 12 JUNE: The initiative for enhancing bilateral trade & commerce in northeast India with various southeast Asian countries start gaining momentum.  Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi&’s visit to Thailand and subsequent trip of a business delegation led by DoNER minister Paban Singh Ghatowar to Cambodia and Thailand have shown some sense of seriousness of the political leadership.
Gogoi, who met the director general of International Trade Promotion in Thailand yesterday expressed happiness that he could highlight various issues like expansion of trade, ways to attract more tourists and mutual cooperation with Srirat Rastapana. According to an Assam government statement, Gogoi laid emphasis on expanding trade in textiles, handloom and bamboo sectors between the northeastern region and Thailand. Earlier  Gogoi met Bangkok Governor Mom Rajawongse Sukhumbhand Paripatra at his office on Monday and discussed various issues of mutual interests between the two countries focusing on Assam and northeast India. sns
