Army pays tributes to soldiers martyred in Kupwara operations

Army on Thursday paid tributes to two soldiers who attained martyrdom during two separate operations in Kupwara on 21 and 22 November respectively.

In a solemn ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantt, Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Corps Commander, Chinar Corps and all ranks paid homage to the martyrs on behalf of a proud nation.

In a show of solidarity, officials and representatives from the State Government and other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyrs.

Martyr Rifleman Jitender Kumar, 23 years of age sustained bullet injuries during a fierce operation in Zarhama (Kupwara) on 21 November while trying to intercept a group of LeT terrorists. He had joined Army in 2014 and hailed from Village Shaulana, Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh. He is survived by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Martyr Sepoy Mandeep Singh attained martyrdom in a counter infiltration operation along Line of Control in Keran Sector (Kupwara). One terrorist attempting to infiltrate was eliminated in this operation. The 32 years soldier hailed from village Chahal Khurd in Gurdaspur, Punjab, and had joined Army in 2004. He is survived by his wife and a son.

The mortal remains of the martyrs were flown for last rites to their native places, where they would be laid to rest with full military honours.
