Controversy surrounding ‘Padmavati’, the epic drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, seems to be gaining traction with each passing day. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer film has been facing ire of the Rajput community, who believe that Bhansali-led team is distorting Khastriya history.

The film is scheduled to be released in theatres on 1 December, 2017.

17 November 2017:

Abhishek Som, President of Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Mahasabha,  announced a reward of Rs. 5 crore for beheading actress Deepika Padukone, who plays the role of Rani Padmavati in ‘Padmavati’ movie, and its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the ‘wrongful portrayal’ of the historical character.

18 November 2017:

Hundreds of locals led by the Rajput community blocked the entry to Kumbhalgarh Fort in Rajsamand district, demanding a complete ban on Bollywood film ‘Padmavati’.

17 November 2017:

16 November 2017:

President of Karni Sena, Mahakaal Makrana threatened to assault actress Deepika Padukone, who plays the titular role of ‘Rani Padmavati’, and said that he will ‘chop her nose’ if the movie is released.

Makrana said Rajputs never raise their hands on women. But if need be, we will do to Deepika Padukone what Lakshman did to Surpanakha (Ramayana reference).

14 November 2017:

Padmavati’ movie makers decide to provide an open screening to Karni Sena Workers, who had vandalised a cinema hall in Kota.

12th November 2017:

MK Vishvaraj Singh, a royal member of Udaipur’s Mewar penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Ministers, CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi and others, requesting them to withhold the certification and release of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial ‘Padmavati’.

8th November 2017:

The Gujarat High Court dismissed the petition filed by Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena stating that the petition filed was premature and that the CBFC will take necessary actions if facts as distorted.

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali rubbished rumours and reports of a romantic dream sequence between ‘Rani Padmavati’ and the invader Allauddin Khilji in the film.

2nd November 2017:

Bharatiya Janata Party wrote to Election Commission demanding a temporary ban or postponing the release of ‘Padmavati’ film, as it is releasing ahead of the Gujarat elections, which will be held on December 9 and December 14.

Congress leader from Gujarat also voice their agreement on banning the film if there is “distortion of history” in the movie.

18 October 2017:

Deepika Padukone’s ‘Padmavati’  rangoli, created by artist Karan K in a mall in Surat, which took 48 hours to make, was vandalised by goons, who barged inside the mall chanting Jai Sai Ram.

September 2017:

March 2017:

The sets of the film were set on fire in Kolhapur’s Masai.

January 2017:

Jai Rajputana along with Karni Sena workers had vandalised the film’s set in Jaipur and even attacked the crew. They have also asked for a pre-release of the film or they would burn the cinema houses and multiplexes.

December 2016 :

A painter working on the ‘Padmavati’ sets died after falling from a height of 5 ft.
