One person was killed in a firing incident following an altercation between two groups during Daraula sugarcane traders’ body elections here today, police said.

Chairman elections of the traders’ body were being conducted when supporters of Satish and Bhupendra, both running for the post, had an altercation which turned violent, SP Om Prakash said.

42-year-old Narendra was shot in the incident and rushed to a hospital where he died during treatement, he said.

One person was injured in the stampede following the firing incident, the SP said, adding, shops were also shut in the area for a while.

In a complaint filed by the victim’s family, they have accused Raju alias Rajiv, Pravin and Brajveer of killing Narendra.

The police have arrested Brajveer and Pravin while search is on to nab the third accused, he said.
