Taiwan: Jazz Recital

Sizhukong jazz band from Taiwan perms at Nehru Park, New Delhi

Taiwan’s ‘Sizhukong’ jazz band took the stage in Nehru Park, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi as part of the 7th Delhi International Jazz Festival at the invitation of ICCR and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Formed in 2005, ‘Sizhukong’ is an instrumental jazz fusion band which uses Chinese traditional instruments. ‘Sizhukong’ originally means “Silk, Bamboo, Open” in Chinese and refers to a pressure point near the temples in the human body. Their music is a fusion of sounds old and new that finds its roots in the past and the future.

GERMANY: STORY TIME

Thanks to Kamal Pruthi’s funny antics and mastery of the art, ‘Kabuliwala’, a storytelling session, was pure magic. In an enthralling workshop at the GoetheInstitut/Max Mueller Bhavan, young German language enthusiasts of Class IV from various schools were introduced to simple German words through song, dance and group assignments, as also hilarious stories told in a mix of Hindi, English and German words. Students were laughing, singing, running around in circles and having a gala time! Even maths was made interesting through a rap song. The students as well as the teachers were left asking for more.
