At a time when a squabble over not observing the death anniversary of the nation’s first woman Prime Minster and paying tribute to the nation’s first deputy Prime Minister is making news, the powers that be have given a go by to the setting up of a sovereign government away from Indian soil when the nation was still under the foreign yoke.

The anniversary of setting up Azad Hind government by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and his comrades in arms of Indian National Army (INA) has been forgotten. Perhaps celebrating the occasion on 21 October on its 75th anniversary would have started a process in which many skeletons would have tumbled out of the cupboard. Inconvenient questions would have arisen and the masses would have sought an answer about the whereabouts of INA’s treasure not to forget the shooting of INA soldiers after the battle.

For the first time, since the Great Uprising of 1857, men and women had fought the same enemy sinking religious differences. And last and not the least, observing this anniversary would have led more questions about Netaji’s disappearance. But the magazine, Jayashree had devoted its October issue to this cause. The 264-page magazine have carried old write-ups and added new ones to them to honour the martyrs
