For stylist Aastha Sharma, stepping out of her comfort zone is a necessity. She is a regular stylist for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her daughter, Aaradhya, and has styled some of Bollywood’s ruling residents, like Sonam Kapoor, Disha Patani, Sonakshi Sinha and Esha Gupta. Her skills scorched headlines at the Cannes Film Festival this year. After completing her fashion degree from Pearl Academy, Delhi, Sharma did her Masters’ in fashion merchandising and marketing. She is now an entrepreneur herself with her newlylaunched company, Wardrobist Consultancy.

Always inclined towards styling more than designing, Sharma thoroughly enjoys her work and is glad to have chosen this field as her profession. Styling such an extensive range of women, from Aishwarya to Kalki, all with their own fashion signatures, does not look like an easy task. But it’s a cakewalk for her. What makes her job easier is an understanding of each one’s strong individual styles, body types and occasion — it is a fun process that she won’t trade for anything else. And we did see her passion for fashion styling recently in Cannes when Aishwarya looked like a princess from those childhood fairy tales. The long blue dress with the gorgeous smile of hers made it a privilege for Sharma to get an opportunity to style her.

While many people in this industry complain about certain aspects of stardom, Sharma seems to enjoy every bit of it. She loves working with different personalities and experimenting with ideas. Her personal social media accounts are filled with Aishwarya looks, which create bold fashion statements. She enjoys every aspect of the celebrity lifestyle and would not want to change a thing. As a renowned stylist herself, Sharma looks towards hard work and dedication as the sole virtues imperative for survival in the industry. Long hours of work with serious commitment are what she suggests aspiring fashion stylists of our generation should keep in mind.

Talking about the planning that entails and the time demanded to arrange a big red carpet look for Aishwarya, Sharma says “We start working on these a couple of months in advance. It is an exciting experience, the moment I see that one outfit, I know no one except Aishwarya can carry it off. She always pulls it off marvellously”. Her clients have always been seen with experimental bold looks. Playing safe is monotonous for everyone — stylist, star and audience. “Fashion is an experimental field and that’s how new looks are invented and old ones reinvented. Fear has no place”, she added.

Kolkata tends to become one of the hotter cities of the country during summers. In this scorching summer heat, few essentials that every fashionista should possess are known to all. Easy clothing, light breezy colours, experimenting with silhouettes, bright lip colours and nice hair accessories to tie up one’s hair are things advised for this season, both to stay fashionable and beat the heat.
