Women-centric fares may not have take center stage in B-town, but the success of Queen, Mary Kom, Angry Indian Goddesses, and Masaan, have certainly proved the point.
If 2015 offered a range of women centric movies like Piku, NH10, Massan, Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Margarita With a Straw, 2016 too provides a bouquet of films focusing on different aspects of women through various stories.
Let’s take a 2016 lineup:
Neerja: The saga of bravery and courage, the biopic starring Sonam Kapoor as flight assistant Neerja Bhanot, who lost her life in the ill-fated Pan Am Flight 73 that was hijacked, is all set to come out in the New Year. The trailer of the film is out and looks very promising.
Jai Gangaajal: Priyanka Chopra, the toast of the season, has replaced Ajay Devgn in the second installment of GangaaJal to play a tough lady cop. Already being hailed for her performance in Bajirao Mastaani, Priyanka is likely to hit the jackpot with the film once again if the trailer is anything to go by!
Cabaret: If you loved her in off-beat roles in the movies like Masaan, Richa Chadha is all set to surprise her fans in the glamorous avatar that she has donned for Pooja Bhatt’s Cabaret, said to be replete with singing and dancing. Richa, however, says the film has a lot more than dancing. It’ll be interesting to see what the film has in store when it comes out.
Chalk N Duster: The film about teachers and students relationship is an ensemble of fine actresses. Starring Shabana Azmi, Zarina Wahab, Juhi Chawla and Divya Dutta in the principal roles, the film will also see Richa Chadha as a journalist.
