In perhaps one of the firsts in the history of the Academy Awards, the best picture announcement was marred with goof up. La La Land crew enjoyed a brief moment of glory before it was clarified that in fact Moonlight had taken home the best picture award at the Oscars ceremony.
A visibly confused Warren Beatty jumbled up the names due to an unprecedented mix up of the envelopes.
Beatty later announced that the envelope given to him read best actress Emma Stone for La La Land which got him confused.

Moonlight, earlier at the ceremony won best adapted screenplay and best supporting actor Mahershala Ali.
