New Delhi, 6 January
Terming the address of the Lieutenant Governor, Mr Najeeb Jung, as very ‘disappointing’, the Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Legislative Assembly, Dr Harsh Vardhan, today said the hopes and expectations of the people of Delhi from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have been shattered as issues like curbing corruption, price rise and crime against women were missing.
According to Dr Vardhan, the L-G neither mentioned the measures to tackle corruption nor did he fix a time-frame for the same. "The AAP is betraying the trust of the people which they had shown in the party. The false promises made before the elections are falling flat,” alleged Dr Vardhan.
He said AAP had promised to put Congress leaders behind bars after coming to power but now the party has entered into an alliance with the same party and it is now trying to shield the Congress leaders.
During his speech in the Assembly after the L-G address, Dr Vardhan targeted Ms Rakhi Birla, Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister, and Mr Rajesh Garg, AAP MLA, for creating ‘lawlessness’ in the state. He accused Garg of harassing BJP corporator Shobha Vijender and alleged that AAP supporters were encroaching upon the land of Rajan Babu TB Hospital.
Dr Vardhan also alleged that the government has failed to bring down prices, which it promised to do. “The government can easily bring down the prices of vegetables by up to 50 per cent by putting a check on black marketers and middlemen but the government is silent over the issue. Instead, it has increased water tariff in the city while fuel prices have also gone up,” he added.
Accusing the AAP of lowering the dignity of the Assembly by wearing party caps inside the House, Dr Vardhan said, “The Chief Minister had left the House midway while the Speaker was being elected,” adding that all its ministers were using government vehicles contrary to their claims of ending VIP culture.
