In a bid to improve the functioning of the sewerage system of a large number of colonies existing on both sides of Vikas Marg, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is constructing a Sewage Pumping Station of 53.5 MGD capacity at a cost of Rs. 127 crores.
According to DJB spokesperson, the board has, therefore recently commissioned 1200 mm diameter rising main laid in a length of 7.5 kms from the Preet Vihar Sewage Pumping Station to the Kondli Sewage Treatment Plant. "Commissioning of the newly laid pipeline has benefitted Laxmi Nagar, Shakarpur, Krishna Nagar, Preet Vihar Group of Colonies, Geeta Colony, Khureji, Chitra Vihar, Nirman Vihar and adjoining colonies," said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson also said that the problem of sewage overflow and surcharge of sewer line has been redressed considerably in these areas. "The project will lead to improvement in sanitary conditions of the area and bring immense convenience to citizens," said the spokesperson.
The newly commissioned line will carry sewage generated from these areas to Kondli STP. Utilization of Kondli STP will improve considerably.
Before commissioning of this main line, sewage over-flow from the area was going into the Shahdara drain. Commissioning of the line will reduce pollution in this drain and consequent pollution in the river Yamuna.
