On the eve of Raksha Bandhan, a councillor from Rajindra Nagar area of North Delhi, Rajesh Bhatia, has deployed seven marshals for the security of girls and ladies in the area.

This initiative is first of its kind by any Delhi councillor.

He appointed seven marshals at Vivekanand park (Sindhi Park), after seeing that men in groups were drinking, playing cards and gambling in the park, due to which young girls and ladies were afraid of passing through it.

“Many girls complained about it to the police but that was not enough. So, we appointed the marshals for their protection. It is gift for all women on the occasion of Rakshabandhan. These well-trained marshals are wandering around the whole park keeping an eye on such people," said the councillor (from ward No 149).

Rajindra Nagar is an educational hub, where many students including girls who attend coaching classes for competitive exams, come for walk. Occasionally, the situation becomes critical for these girls due to few unsocial elements.
