The apex court gave both the Delhi government and the four convicts four weeks’ time to file their response.
In order to eradicate the use of drugs among youth, the Delhi government will launch a year-long campaign to help raise awareness about the menace and its consequences at an young age.
The campaign titled “Khawhish Udaan ki” will be organised in government colleges and schools in the national capital targeting vulnerable areas in the city, apart from hosting activities such as street plays to spread awareness about the menace.
Talking with the media, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said keeping in view the fast growing culture of drug consumption in educational institutes in the capital, the government has decided to run a campaign to focus on the use of drugs among students of government-run schools and colleges.
Starting the campaign from the Ambedkar University on 20 September, Gautam said the government aims to take this initiative in every colony of the city to cover the larger audience.
As part of the campaign, the Delhi government proposes to conduct around 1,200 street plays against drug use and has signed 12 drama clubs of various colleges. Several celebrities from Bollywood like Gul Panag and Javed Jaffrey will be involved in the campaign.
