Woman’s suicide claim on WhatsApp keeps Haridwar police on their toes

The Haridwar police are searching for a woman who had posted a message on a WhatsApp group claiming that she was committing suicide in the holy city.

Nishtha, a married woman from Delhi, went missing after she posted the message. As Haridwar was mentioned as the place for committing suicide in the message, the police are on their toes.

Nishtha in her message on a WhatsApp group comprising friends and relatives had alleged that she was being harassed by her husband and in-laws. She had mentioned Haridwar as the place to find her body.

The WhatsApp message was posted at 8.43 pm on Sunday. Haridwar Kotwal (City) Chanderbhan Singh said, “Based on the information available on social media and instruction from senior police officers, we have started the search at bathing ghats, hotels and dhabas.”

The photograph of the missing girl was circulated among cops at various locations in Haridwar.

A missing person’s complaint was lodged at Indraprastha police station in Delhi on Sunday.
