Amidst the raging debate on the ill-effects of firecrackers on environment, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday announced that he will be bursting firecrackers on Diwali because “traditions are as important as the environment.”

Speaking to the media, Chouhan said: “Firecrackers alone don’t contribute to pollution. We will light earthen lamps and also burst a few crackers.”

“Traditions are as important as the environment. So we will celebrate Diwali traditionally,” he added.

In the wake of the Supreme Court ban on the sale of firecrackers in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), MP Home Minister Bhupendra Singh had invited Delhiites to come down to the state to celebrate Diwali.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government has restricted the use of crackers generating noise more than 125 dB during Diwali.

State Environment Minister Antar Singh Arya has requested the people to use crackers under mentioned noise level and to dump the waste generated by the crackers separately.
