Former chief minister and leader of opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal on Thursday called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking necessary directions to start recruitment of Himachalis in paramilitary forces.

In a letter written to Singh, Dhumal said the youth from the state had played an important role in the armed forces and many soldiers have been awarded with highest gallantry medals for their outstanding valour in the line of duty.

“I had raised the issue during Hamirpur rally to which Singh had announced to grant quota for the youth of the state,” he said.

The former CM said earlier recruitment of youth of the state for paramilitary forces and Delhi Police used to be conducted in the state. But the now the system has been changed and the youth had to travel to recruitment rallies venues which is putting additional financial burden on them.

“By starting the system again, it would not only benefit the youth but it would also lead to providing better man-force for internal and external security of the country,” he added.
