SJVN to contribute 1.70 lakh man hours annually for cleanliness

Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVN) would put in more than 1.70 lakh man hours every year for keeping the environment clean and healthy for the future generations, Chairman and Managing Director RN Misra said on Saturday.

The SJVN started cleanliness fortnight (Swachhta Pakhwara from 1 to 15 July) in which around 1,700 employees pledged to devote 100 hours for cleanliness every year. “The drive initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be limited to any specific day or fortnight, but will be imbibed in the daily routines of all the employees of SJVN,” Misra said after launching the drive.

He said a series of activities are planned for this fortnight and under this drive, SJVN is committed to develop two villages for project affected areas’ people as Model Villages by 2018-19.

“For the purpose of making village’s open-defecation free, SJVN is planning to connect three villages of project affected area with sewerage treatment plan and construction activities to this effect will be starting during this fortnight,” he said. SJVN is also constructing six toilets along NH 22 in association with Sulabh, the initial construction of three of these toilets will take effect during this fortnight.

Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan SJVN has constructed 2,421 toilets at a cost of around Rs 23 Crore in the schools situated in project areas.
